This will be Archbishop-elect Perez’s first public appearance since being announced as the 14th Bishop and 10th Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia at a news conference held at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center on Thursday, January 23rd.

The remarks below were delivered by Archbishop Chaput this morning at a news conference introducing Most Reverend Nelson J. Perez as the next Archbishop of Philadelphia.

Archbishop-elect Perez’s Mass of Installation will take place on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 in the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul at 2:00 p.m

Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. will host a news conference this morning to announce that Pope Francis has named Most Reverend Nelson J. Perez as the 14th Bishop and 10th Archbishop of Philadelphia.

A portion of all tickets sold will directly benefit Catholic Charities Appeal beneficiaries providing support to the homeless, special needs students, food cupboards, afterschool programs, and more.

The announcement took place at Divine Providence Village in Springfield (Delaware County), a ministry of Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and a beneficiary of CCA.

The Shrine of Saint Katharine Drexel will host an engaging talk, “Martin Luther King, Jr. and Saint Katharine Drexel: Champions of Justice,” by Bucks County Human Relations Council board member and Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament associate, Joyce Hadley.

The National Prayer Vigil for Life will be held from Thursday, January 23 to Friday, January 24, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

This year’s theme is Open Wide Our Hearts: Our Call to Heal the Racial Divide.

This observance recalls the sanctity and dignity of human life and is a local precursor to the 47th Annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. on Friday, January 24th.
