REVEREND MONSIGNOR JOHN P. BOLAND

1929 – 2016

Reverend Monsignor John P. Boland, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Rose of Lima Parish, North Wales, died on Saturday, May 7, 2016.

Monsignor Boland was born on July 30, 1929, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late John Patrick Boland and the late Beatrice C. (Murphy) Boland. Monsignor Boland attended Saint Helena Parochial School, Philadelphia, and La Salle College High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Monsignor Boland was ordained on May 19, 1955, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend John F. O’Hara, C.S.C., and named Honorary Prelate to His Holiness Pope John Paul II on March 14, 1998. Monsignor Boland served as Chaplain, Convent of the Holy Child, Sharon Hill. He also served in the Diocese of San Juan Puerto Rico. Monsignor Boland served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Edward the Confessor Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Malachy Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Elizabeth Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Francis De Sales Parish, Lenni; Saint Michael Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish, Philadelphia; Visitation B.V.M. Parish, Philadelphia, and Saint Christopher Parish, Philadelphia. In 1984, Monsignor Boland was appointed Pastor, Saint Rose of Lima Parish, North Wales, and named Pastor Emeritus there in 2004.

Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Christopher’s Church, Philadelphia, on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at 4:00 PM, followed by a viewing and Mass will be celebrated at 6:00 PM.

Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Rose of Lima Church, North Wales, on Monday, May 16, 2016, at 10:00 AM, followed by a viewing. Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Monsignor Boland at 12:00 Noon. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor James J. Graham, Reverend Edmond J. Speitel, Reverend Thomas J. Gardner, Reverend Francis X. Herron, Reverend Francis X. Kelly, Reverend Wilfred Maloney, Reverend John D. Scheile and Reverend Francis X. Barrett, Diocese of Allentown. Reverend Monsignor Joseph P. Garvin will be the homilist.

Monsignor Boland is survived by Kathryn W. Boland, sister-in-law, James P. Boland nephew, and nieces: Helen B. Boland, Kathryn Hill, Genevieve Marie Boland, Sara Boland, and Mary Angela Boland. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia.
