Bishop Shanahan High School Earns National Certificate for STEM Excellence

School to host showcase and celebration of STEM projects and awards.

Bishop Shanahan High School in Downingtown (Chester County) will celebrate earning a National Certificate for STEM Excellence and six teachers earning STEM Teaching Certificates. Bishop Shanahan is the first school in Pennsylvania to achieve this designation from the National Institute for STEM education. To mark this achievement the school community will gather for a presentation of STEM projects and awards.

Background Information on National Certificate for STEM Excellence

The National Certificate for STEM Excellence (NCSE) recognizes individual school campuses for their commitment to – and growth in – teachers’ implementation of 21st Century and STEM strategies. Evolving from STEM professional development and curriculum created at Rice University, NISE STEM certificates integrate the most recent research and best practices in STEM, 21st Century Learning and professional development. The year-long process required the Bishop Shanahan High School STEM Leadership Team to collaborate with faculty in order to enhance the school’s STEM efforts as they relate to 27 program indicators, authentically apply processes and resources to elevate a culture of STEM teaching and learning across the curriculum and increase STEM instructional capacity by having a six teachers complete the National Certificate for STEM Teaching (NCST).
