REVEREND FRANCIS J. BARTOS

1928 – 2019

Reverend Francis J. Bartos, Retired and Resident, Villa Saint Joseph, died on Tuesday, September 17, 2019.

Father Bartos was born on August 17, 1928, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Andrew F. Bartos and the late Elizabeth (Demyan) Bartos.  Father Bartos attended Saint Cyril and Methodius Parochial School, Bethlehem; and Bethlehem Catholic High School, Bethlehem, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Bartos was ordained on May 8, 1954, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend John F. O’Hara, C.S.C.  Father Bartos served as Parochial Vicar, Saint Mary Parish, McAdoo; Sacred Heart Parish, Palmerton; Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Allentown; Sacred Heart Parish, Phoenixville; Saint Henry Parish, Philadelphia; Our Lady of Ransom Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Justin Martyr Parish, Narberth and Saint Cecilia Parish Philadelphia.  Father Bartos was a member of the faculty at Monsignor Bonner High School, Drexel Hill and at Bishop Kenrick High School, Norristown.  From 1959 to 1973, Father Bartos served as a Chaplain in the U.S. Air Force.  In 1973, Father Bartos became a member of the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, GA.  From 1980-1986, Father Bartos once again served as a Chaplain in the U.S. Air Force.  In 1990, Father Bartos was appointed Pastor, Saint Justin Martyr Parish, Narberth, where he served until 1992.  He served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Philip Neri Parish, Pennsburg; and Saint Stanislaus Parish, Lansdale.  He served as Senior Priest at Saint Dominic Parish, Philadelphia, before retiring in June, 2000.

A viewing will be held at Saint Francis Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, 1412 Lansdowne Avenue, Darby, on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at 9:00 AM.  Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father Bartos at 11:00 AM. Among those concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Edward J. Kennedy and Reverend Thomas J. Duffy will be the homilist.

 

Father Bartos is survived by his cousins, Dr. Kathleen Kucer and Dr. Thomas Balshi and their families.  Interment will be at Incarnation of Our Lord Cemetery, Bethlehem.
