The Paul VI Award is the highest award presented by the Office for Catechetical Formation for “an outstanding leader who has made significant contributions to catechesis on an archdiocesan, national or international level.” Bishop McFadden, the 10th Bishop of the Diocese of Harrisburg died unexpectedly on May 2, 2013 at the age of 66. Bishop McFadden’s brother and sisters will accept the Paul VI Award on his behalf.

The Religious Education Mass highlights those who pass on the faith to parish children who attend public or non-Catholic private schools. Immediately after Mass, the presentation of the catechetical awards follows. The Catechetical awards mark anniversaries of service for catechists and Directors/Coordinators of Religious Education. Over 250 Catechists and Directors/Coordinators of Religious Education will be honored for their five to 30 years of service in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The Mass is sponsored by the Office for Catechetical Formation.
