Archdiocese of Philadelphia to Celebrate Annual Mass Honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe

Faithful from North and South Philadelphia will process to the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in honor of our Blessed Virgin Mary.

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia will hold its annual Mass honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe on the eve of her feast day. Our Lady of Guadalupe is patroness of the Americas, unborn children, and the New Evangelization.

Bishop Edward M. Deliman, who oversees ministry to the Hispanic Catholic community as part of his pastoral and administrative duties in the Archdiocese, will be the principal celebrant and homilist.

8:30 p.m. – Procession
9:00 p.m. – Mass
Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul
18th Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway

Faithful from across the City of Philadelphia will process on foot from their home parishes to the Cathedral. The celebration will include traditional dancing and music in front of the Cathedral. At the conclusion of Mass, Our Lady of Guadalupe’s image will leave the Sanctuary to be viewed by all those in attendance. 

Pilgrims from Saint Thomas Aquinas, Sacred Heart, and Annunciation B.V.M. parishes in South Philadelphia will process on foot from Saint Thomas Aquinas Church to the Cathedral.

Pilgrims from Holy Innocents Parish (including faithful from Saint Joan of Arc Mission Church), Visitation B.V.M Parish, and Saint Michael Parish will process on foot from North Philadelphia to the Cathedral. Saint Veronica Parish participants will pilgrimage on bus departing from Saint Hugh of Cluny worship site at the northern western corner of Howard and Tioga Streets.

Pilgrimage Schedule from Philadelphia parishes to Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral:

4:30 p.m.:         Parishioners from Visitation will depart Visitation Church (“B” Street and Lehigh Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19125), led by a Mariachi  band heading west on Lehigh Ave., down 2nd Street. The Procession picks up Saint Michael Parish parishioners (2nd and Jefferson Streets)   around 6:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Expected arrival time at the Cathedral is 7:45 p.m.

5:30 p.m.:        Parishioners depart from Saint Joan of Arc Church (2025 E. Atlantic Street, Philadelphia, PA 19134) down Frankford Avenue to Tioga Street. Expected arrival time at the Cathedral is 7:45 p.m.

7:00 p.m.:        Procession from Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish (1719 Morris Street, Philadelphia, PA 19145) departs to the Cathedral heading north on 18th Street. Expected arrival time at the Cathedral is 8:00 p.m.

8:00 p.m.:        Arrival at the Cathedral

9:00 p.m.:        Mass music will be provided by the Hispanic Choir of Philadelphia under the direction of Damaris Thillet.

Procession Route for Parishes in North Philadelphia:
From Visitation Parish, parishioners will travel west on Lehigh Ave., down 2nd Street, pass Saint Michael Parish (where Saint Michael parishioners will join the procession), turning right on Spring Garden Ave., and left onto 17th Street onto the Cathedral.

From Saint Joan of Arc the procession will take Atlantic Street to Frankford Ave., Frankford Ave. to Tioga St., travel east on Tioga to Aramingo Ave., travel down Aramingo Ave. to Girard Ave., take Girard Ave. to 2nd St., walk down 2nd Street to Spring Garden Ave., and travel down Spring Garden Ave. to 17th Street onto the Cathedral. 

Procession Route for Parishes in South Philadelphia:
Saint Thomas Aquinas, Sacred Heart, and Annunciation B.V.M. parishioners will process from Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish turn right onto 18th Street and head north to the Cathedral.
