The new video is intended to launch an Archdiocesan-wide discussion on Racial Healing
The Archbishop’s Commission on Racial Healing and the Office for Catholic Education will premiere a new film that emphasizes the mortal sin of racism, the importance of racial harmony, and respect for every person. Approximately 40 students from Archdiocesan high schools located in the city and suburban counties will be present.

The film, which highlights the mission and objectives of the Commission on Racial Healing, will be shown at a special prayer service led by Reverend Stephen D. Thorne, Chair of the Commission. Three other commission members, Mr. Gerry Davis, Ms. Marcelle McGuirk, and Ms. Ursala Yau, will offer personal reflections during the service and a special video message from Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, Archbishop of Philadelphia, will be shown.
Everyone present will take part in small group discussions on anti-bias work using a discussion guide created by the commission. The video and discussion guides will be used throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Background on the Archbishop’s Commission on Racial Healing
Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez launched the Archbishop’s Commission on Racial Healing in 2021. The Commission is composed of 18 people and represents the diversity of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia by race, age, gender, and language.
