Archbishop Wood High School Girls’ Basketball Team to Play in PIAA 5A State Championship Game

Archbishop Wood community to hold Pep Rally before team departs for Hershey.

The Archbishop Wood High School Girls’ Basketball Team from Warminster (Bucks County) will contend for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Girls’ 5A State Championship when they play South Fayette High School from McDonald (Allegheny County).

The Archbishop Wood community will gather for a Pep Rally to celebrate the Girls’ Basketball Team and all of the school’s Winter Sports Teams. Members of the Girls’ Basketball Team will lead the procession into the South Gym while the Archbishop Wood Cheer Team and the student body cheer them on.

The school will show a hype video of highlights from the Girls’ Basketball Team’s season and their road to Hershey. The local Pep Rally will take place in advance of the game on Saturday, March 29 at 6:00 p.m. at the Giant Center in Hershey (Dauphin County).

The Archbishop Wood Girls’ Basketball Team has an overall record of 22-7 this year and is led by Senior Emily Knouse and Sophomore Ryan Carter.  Both have scored over 1,000 points in their high school careers. Archbishop Wood’s program is making its 13th appearance in the state finals. They have won four state consecutive titles and nine overall. On February 25, the Vikings defeated Freire Charter High School from Philadelphia to capture the District XII 5A crown.  The team is coached by Mike McDonald.  

The game will be televised on the Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN) pcntv.com/basketball/.
