The Immaculate Conception Chapel will serve as the main chapel at the Seminary’s new campus.
To preserve the history of the Overbrook campus, which was home to Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary from 1871 to 2024, altars, stained-glass windows, and pews were moved from the chapels at that location to the chapel at the new Lower Gwynedd campus.
On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, the seminarians of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary arrived on campus to mark the start of the institution’s 193rd year of priestly formation and the first year at the new at the new campus in Lower Gwynedd (Montgomery County).
In total, 140 seminarians are enrolled at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary for the 2024-2025 academic year, including 23 new seminarians. Among the seminarians beginning their journey at the seminary this fall are 7 new seminarians studying for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. In total, there are now 71 seminarians preparing to serve the Church of Philadelphia. In addition, 14 partner dioceses and religious communities from across the country and around the world send their men to St. Charles Borromeo Seminary for formation.
About Saint Charles Seminary
Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary was founded as the Roman Catholic seminary for the Diocese of Philadelphia in 1832, making it the oldest Catholic institution of higher learning in the state of Pennsylvania. As of August 2024, the Seminary has an overall enrollment of 140 seminarians, 71 of which study for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. There are 23 new seminarians enrolled this fall, marking the first incoming class at the new campus.
