Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez to Host Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Interfaith Prayer Service

Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, Archbishop of Philadelphia, will be the principal convener of the Annual Archdiocesan Interfaith Prayer Service commemorating the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year’s theme is Unity with a Purpose.

He will be joined by Rabbi Beth Janus, Rabbi at Lafayette Redeemer and member of Germantown Jewish Centre; Reverend James Mack M. Div., Chaplain Holy Redeemer Hospital and Senior Pastor of Wayland Temple Baptist Church of Philadelphia; Sister Stephanie Henry, S.B.S., President of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament; and Abdul Rahman, retired Principal of Al Aqsa Islamic Academy in Philadelphia.

Faith leaders from diverse denominations will proclaim scripture readings and lead a reflection on Martin Luther King, Jr. The main reflection will be presented by Sister Stephanie Henry, S.B.S., President of Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. Opening and closing songs will be presented by Saint Phillip Neri Church Choir. The Philadelphia Catholic Gospel Mass Choir will lead the gathering in song. 

The Annual Archdiocesan Commemorative celebration is sponsored by the Office for Black Catholics, the Archbishop’s Commission on Racial Healing, and local parishes serving the pastoral and spiritual needs of the Black Catholic community. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Archbishop Nelson J. Perez launched the Archbishop’s Commission on Racial Healing in 2021. The Commission is composed of 18 people and represents the diversity of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia by race, age, gender, and language.
