Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez To Hold News Conference Following Announcement That Pope Francis Has Named Reverend Keith J. Chylinski, Reverend Christopher R. Cooke, And Reverend Efren V. Esmilla to Serve as Auxiliary Bishops for The Archdiocese of Philadelphia

Earlier today, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis has named Reverend Keith J. Chylinski, Reverend Christopher R. Cooke, and Reverend Efren V. Esmilla as Auxiliary Bishops to serve the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and her people.

Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, Archbishop of Philadelphia, will hold a news conference to introduce the three Bishops-elect today. The news conference will be streamed live to the Archbishop’s Facebook page.

Auxiliary Bishop-elect Chylinski, age 52, currently serves as the Rector of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary (Wynnewood).

Auxiliary Bishop-elect Cooke, age 50, currently serves as the Dean of Men at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary (Wynnewood).

Auxiliary Bishop-elect Esmilla, age 61, currently serves as the Pastor of Saint James Parish (Elkins Park) and Saint Martin of Tours Parish (Philadelphia) as well as the Chaplain to the Filipino Apostolate.

Following the news conference, Archbishop Pérez will be the principal celebrant of Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Peter and Paul for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, a Holy Day of Obligation in the Roman Catholic Church.

Auxiliary Bishop John J. McIntyre; Retired Auxiliary Bishop Edward M. Deliman; Auxiliary Bishop-elect Keith J. Chylinski; Auxiliary Bishop-elect Christopher R. Cooke; and Auxiliary Bishop-elect Efren V. Esmilla will concelebrate. The Mass will be streamed live to the Archbishop’s Facebook page.

Editor’s Note:  An audio mult-box with program feed will be available for media outlets attending the news conference at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center.

For media covering the Mass, a press mult-box with the Program and Clean feeds from the multi-camera system in the Cathedral is available with 1080i SDI embedded audio (BNC), Program audio (XLR) and  power access. Crews will need a live truck or recording device. 

The mult-box is located on the exterior wall of the Cathedral in the parking lot opposite the loading dock of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center. Crews can enter by the 17th Street entrance. Please note that due to recent renovations in the area a 50 foot cable is recommended for media vehicles.
