Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez Presides at Blessing and Dedication of Saint Joseph Place, an Affordable Housing Location for Seniors

Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez blessed and dedicated the 50-unit facility which will provide affordable housing for independent seniors in Delaware County. It is the sixth such facility opened by Catholic Housing and Community Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia

Today at a special ceremony, Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, Archbishop of Philadelphia, blessed and dedicated Saint Joseph Place, a new affordable housing community for independent seniors in Collingdale (Delaware County).

Catholic Housing and Community Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CHCS) along with project development partners, City, Borough, and Government Officials, donors, and community supporters joined the Archbishop to celebrate the opening of the newly renovated building which once housed Saint Joseph Parish School (1916-2010).

Saint Joseph Place consists of 50 one-bedroom apartments for income eligible seniors 62 and older. Additional features include a community room, food cupboard, laundry facilities, resident lounges, and on-site social services facilitated by CHCS staff to assist residents with aging in place.

“This is an especially joyful day for CHCS, Saint Joseph Parish and the Collingdale community,” said Ms. Heather Huot, Director of CHCS. “As we dedicate Saint Joseph Place today, we celebrate the new life brought to this historic landmark. The Saint Joseph School legacy of educating Collingdale youth has been transformed into a welcoming home for our older adults.”

A replay of the blessing and dedication can be viewed later this week on Archbishop Pérez’s Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ArchbishopPerez/.
