Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez Presided at Blessing and Dedication of Father Augustus Tolton Place, an Affordable Housing Location for Seniors

Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez blessed and dedicated the 45-unit facility which will provide affordable housing for independent seniors in the Eastwick section of Southwest Philadelphia. It is the seventh such facility opened by Catholic Housing and Community Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

Today at a special ceremony, Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, Archbishop of Philadelphia, blessed and dedicated Father Augustus Tolton Place. It is a new affordable housing community for independent seniors in Southwest Philadelphia consisting of 45 one-bedroom apartments for income eligible seniors 62 and older. Additional features include a community room, food cupboard offering both perishable and nonperishable items, laundry facilities, resident lounges, and on-site social services facilitated by CHCS staff to assist residents with aging in place.

Catholic Housing and Community Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CHCS) along with project development partners, city and state government officials, funders, donors, and community supporters joined the Archbishop to celebrate the opening of the newly constructed building.

Father Augustus Tolton Place is the seventh senior housing facility of its nature developed in the Philadelphia region by CHCS. CHCS’s affordable senior living communities include Saint Francis Villa (Kensington); Saint John Neumann Place and Saint John Neumann Place II (South Philadelphia); Saint Rita Place (South Philadelphia); Nativity B.V.M. Place (Port Richmond); St. Joseph Place (Collingdale); and the future Saint Katharine Drexel Place (Northeast Philadelphia) that will commence construction in late summer 2025.

Mrs. Suzanne O’Grady Laurito, Director of CHCS said, “Father Augustus Tolton Place provides critically needed affordable housing that is beautifully designed as a reflection of each residents’ innate dignity.  Catholic Housing and Community Services is so grateful to our funders, investors, and development team for partnering with us to bring this development to fruition.”
