Today, Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, Archbishop of Philadelphia, released a video invitation to parishioners throughout the five-county Archdiocese of Philadelphia to return with joy and renewed faith in Jesus to the in-person celebration of Sunday Mass.
The video, which was posted across Archbishop Pérez’s social media platforms, is part of the Nothing Compares to Being There initiative of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia that will officially launch on Sunday, November 28, 2021, the First Sunday of Advent. Archbishop Pérez introduced this initiative in a letter that he issued to the faithful on the Feast of Pentecost. Nothing Compares to Being There presents parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia with an opportunity to personally invite their parishioners to return to the in-person celebration of the Mass after the many long months of the pandemic. It draws upon the central truth of our Christian faith that Jesus Christ encounters and saves us in the flesh, through in-person presence and celebration of the Eucharist.

In addition, the Annual Eucharistic Devotion, Forty Hours at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, which typically begins with the new liturgical year, will be an Archdiocesan wide observance with exposition throughout the night to encourage in-person adoration. Clergy, religious, and lay faithful of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia are invited to participate by signing up for a Holy Hour on the website https://archphila.org/nothingcompares/.
