62 Catholic Elementary Schools Throughout the Five County Region to be Recognized at 2023 Archdiocesan Schools of Distinguished Instruction

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s Office of Catholic Education will recognize sixty-two parish and regional elementary schools as 2023 Archdiocesan Schools of Distinguished Instruction. Pastors and administrators from the schools will be present to receive their award during a ceremony.

Thursday, September 7, 2023
4:30 p.m.
Saint Pius X Church
220 Lawrence Road
Broomall, PA 19008 (Delaware County)

Father Philip G. Bochanski, Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and Father Stephen DeLacy, Vicar for the Office for Faith Formation for Youth and Young Adults for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, will preside at the ceremony. In addition, Dr. Andrew McLaughlin, Secretary for Elementary Education for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, will be present as well as other administrators from the Office of Catholic Education.

Twenty-one schools will be recognized for Growth and Exceeding Potential. Recognition for Growth was determined by comparing the Normal Curve Equivalent (NCE) score from this year’s testing to the NCE examinations taken by students in the previous academic year. These schools were found to have shown a full year’s growth in the total mastery of skills at every level tested using comparative NCE data.

Recognition for Exceeding Potential was determined by analyzing the data from the ability testing (InView) and the achievement testing (Terra Nova) in which schools were found to have 85% of the classes meeting or exceeding their potential in all content areas at every level tested with a growth rate between 76 and 90%.

Saint George Independent Catholic School in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia and Saint Andrew School in Newtown (Bucks County) achieved 100% in Growth and Exceeding Potential.
