The Monsignor John T. Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Fund to Honor Twenty African-American Catholic School Students

The Monsignor John T. Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Fund assists African-American Catholic high school students in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Established in 2008, it has disbursed 118 grants totaling $138,000.

Every other year, the Office for Black Catholics of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia sponsors a fundraising gala to raise funds to support the scholarship fund.

Twenty African-American students from eleven Catholic high schools received the 2017-2018 Monsignor John T. Mitchell Memorial Scholarship. Those scholarship awards will total over $16,000. 

Monsignor Mitchell served for many years as a priest of the Archdiocese and was well known for his faithful ministry to African-American Catholics.
