PERMANENT DEACON PHILIP E. HEANEY

 1938 – 2017

Deacon Philip E. Heaney, retired permanent deacon, died on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Lafayette Redeemer Nursing Facility. He was 78 years old.

Deacon Heaney was ordained at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia on June 2, 1996, by His Eminence Anthony Cardinal Bevilacqua.  He was assigned to Maternity BVM Parish, Philadelphia, where he remained until he retired from active ministry in 2013.

Deacon Heaney was married for 52 years to Patricia Anne O’Donnell.  Deacon Heaney had three children: Joseph, John, and Kathleen, and five grandchildren.  He is also survived by two sisters. Deacon Heaney earned a Bachelor of Science degree from LaSalle University and an MBA from Temple University.  He was a retired defense contact auditor.

The Reception of the body and viewing will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2017, beginning at 9:00 AM followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Maternity BVM Church, 9220 Old Busleton Avenue, Philadelphia.  The principal celebrant will be Most Reverend Michael J. Fitzgerald.  The homilist and concelebrant will be Reverend Paul S. Quinter.  The Deacon Assisting at the Liturgy of the Word will be Deacon Charles R. Lindsey and the Deacon Assisting at the Altar will be Deacon John C. Hynes.
