PERMANENT DEACON RICHARD C. COYNE 1930 – 2019

Permanent Deacon Richard C. Coyne, retired, passed away on January 30, 2019, of natural causes. He was 88 years old.

Deacon Coyne was ordained on May 25, 1986, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul by his Eminence John Cardinal Kroll. He retired in 2010. His only assignment was Holy Cross Parish, Philadelphia.

Deacon Coyne was predeceased by Betty, his wife of 51 years, and by his daughter Colette. He is survived by his children: Betty Ann, Karen, Richard, Chris, and Kevin, as well as by seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was a retired information clerk. Deacon Coyne also served honorably in the U.S. Army between 1951 and 1953. He was a graduate of Northeast Catholic High School and Pierce Junior College.

The reception of the body and viewing will take place on Monday, February 4, 2019, at 9:00 AM at Holy Cross Church, 140 East Mount Airy Avenue, Philadelphia, followed by his Funeral at 11:00 AM. The principal celebrant and homilist will be Reverend William E. Grogan. The Deacon of the Mass will be Deacon Edward M. Purnell.
