Casa del Carmen Preschool Academy, a ministry of Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, will hold the inaugural Blessing of the Backpacks in conjunction with its new family orientation. Reverend Alfonso J. Concha, Pastor of Saint William Parish, will preside over the blessing.

Ms. Camille Crane, Administrator of Casa del Carmen said, “The Blessing of the Backpacks is a special way of celebrating and blessing the beginning of a new school year. Thanks to the goodness of Catholic Social Services 73 young learners ages three to five will receive backpacks filled with school supplies that were prepared with much love.”
In addition, students along with their caregivers will meet with their teachers, tour the school, and receive school-related literature such as a family handbook and school-year calendar. Representatives from Casa del Carmen’s Two-Generation Program, Parenting Collaborative, Benephilly Access Center, and Family Literacy program, as well as other service providers, will be on-site to connect families with available resources.
Casa del Carmen Preschool Academy is a PHLpreK program that provides full-service, early childhood education to children between the ages of three and five. In addition, it is a Keystone Stars 4 program.
Since 1998, Casa del Carmen Preschool Academy has been serving the Hunting Park neighborhood in North Philadelphia. Dedicated early childhood education professionals provide students with a high quality preschool education. They utilize research-based structured play activities to help the children learn the knowledge, skills, and abilities they will need to be well prepared for entering Kindergarten. Further, once students have graduated from the program, after-school and full-day summer camp programs are offered which provide a safe place for continued growth and learning.
