Catholic Charities Appeal Selects The Communities Of Don Guanella And Divine Providence As Its #GivingTuesday Beneficiary

The Catholic Charities Appeal (CCA) will once again participate in #GivingTuesday, an annual observance that encourages philanthropy and celebrates generosity. This year’s #GivingTuesday will be held on November 27, 2018, and will follow Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

CCA has selected The Communities of Don Guanella and Divine Providence (DGDP) as its official beneficiary. DGDP is a part of the Intellectual Disabilities Division of Catholic Social Services within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

DGDP is an organization dedicated to transforming the lives of individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities. Dedicated staff and volunteers provide a continuum of care offering a wide range of programing options including community and campus-based living, Life Sharing through Family Living, in-home support, respite care, and day programs.

#GivingTuesday donations will enable DGDP to purchase assistive technology to help individuals with disabilities progress towards the goals outlined in their Individual Program Plans. Some examples include computer programs and tablet applications that provide text-to-speech; speech-to-text, word prediction capabilities, and graphic organizers.

Launched seven years ago, #GivingTuesday has become a philanthropic phenomenon fueled by social media. It inspires people to take collective action to improve their communities and give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

Editor’s Note: CCA is the single most important annual fundraising initiative of the Archdiocese. This year’s Appeal will be a channel of hope for tens of thousands of people through countless organizations and ministries in the five-county Archdiocese. Programs receiving funding from CCA include housing for the homeless, community food cupboards, afterschool academic enrichment and recreational opportunities for youth, and family support services.
