REVEREND MONSIGNOR BERNARD E. WITKOWSKI

1935 – 2016

Reverend Monsignor Bernard E. Witkowski, Retired, Resident, Immaculate Mary Center for Rehabilitation and Health, died on Friday, June 17, 2016.
Monsignor Witkowski was born on February 24, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Bernard A. and Marie Witkowski. Monsignor Witkowski attended Saint Adalbert Parochial School, Philadelphia, Northeast Catholic High School, Philadelphia and Saint John Kanty Prep School, Erie, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Monsignor Witkowski was ordained on May 19, 1962, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend John J. Krol and named Honorary Prelate to His Holiness Pope John Paul II on May 29, 1991. Monsignor Witkowski served as Parochial Vicar at All Saints Chapel, Philadelphia and Maternity B.V.M., Philadelphia; Faculty, Cardinal O’Hara High School, Springfield; Administrator, National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa; Pastor, Saint Ladislaus Parish, Philadelphia and Saint John Cantius Parish, Philadelphia. He retired from active ministry in 2010.
The Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Adalbert’s Church, Philadelphia, on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 9:00 AM, followed by a viewing. Most Reverend Michael J. Fitzgerald will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Monsignor Witkowski at 11:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor John J. Conahan, Reverend Monsignor Daniel J. Sullivan, Reverend Jason Kulczynski, Reverend Jan Palkowski. Monsignor Conahan will be the Homilist.

Monsignor Witkowski is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Drs. Casimir B. and Barbara C. Witkowski; sister, Antoinette McCole; many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Philadelphia.
