Radetzky, Deacon William R.

1923 – 2015

Deacon William R. Radetzky, retired Permanent Deacon, died on Monday, March 23, 2015, after a lengthy illness.

Deacon Radetzky was born on February 22, 1923, in Philadelphia, to the late Charles William Radetzky and Elise M. (nee) Bloomberg. He attended Carnell Elementary School, Wilson Junior High School, and Frankford High School, all in Philadelphia. He then attended Peabody College in Nashville, TN, and later the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. A World War II veteran, Deacon Radetzky served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1942 until 1946. In 2005, he retired from the brokerage firm Janney, Montgomery Scott, where he served as a Senior Vice President.

Deacon Radetzky was married to the late Angela Anne (nee) Amicone. He was the father to three daughters: Carol Pineo; Lisa Anne Sweeney (deceased); and, Susan Radetzky (deceased). He also had two grandsons: Jonathan Pineo and Christopher Tomarelli, and one great grandson. A second great-grandson is due in April, 2015.

He was ordained a Permanent Deacon on May 25, 1986, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol. He was immediately assigned to Epiphany of Our Lord Parish, where he remained until his retirement in January, 2011.

Reception of the body will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015, at Epiphany of Our Lord Church, Plymouth Meeting, at 9:15 AM, followed by a viewing. Most Reverend Robert P. Maginnis will celebrate Deacon Radetzky’s Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. The homilist and Deacon Assisting at the Liturgy of the Word will be Deacon David B. Schaffer. Deacon Assisting at the Altar will be Deacon Michael Pascarella, Jr. Concelebrants will include: Reverend Joseph J. Quindlen, Reverend Richard J. McAndrews; Reverend James J. Kelly; and Reverend Monsignor Joseph P. Gentili. Attending Deacons will include members of the Permanent Diaconate Class of 1994.

Deacon Radetzky is survived by a daughter, Carol Pineo, two grandsons, and one great-grandson. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken.
