Nutritional Development Services Hosts Annual “Manna Sunday” Food Drive

In 2023, Nutritional Development Services collected nearly 75,000 pounds of non-perishable items through this initiative to support those in need.

Nutritional Development Services (NDS), an agency of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, is hosting its annual Manna Sunday food drive beginning today, May 19th. NDS is collecting non-perishable food items through the summer months to benefit individuals and families facing hunger and food insecurity throughout the five-county region.

For over 45 years, NDS has hosted its Manna Sunday food drive. It is named after the edible substance God provided for the Israelites in the desert. Manna Sunday prepares NDS for the “desert” of the summer months when donations at its food pantries historically drop to low levels.

Those interested in supporting NDS and our neighbors in need can purchase healthy, non-perishable items including canned foods like tuna fish, fruit, vegetables, pasta, soups,  and more online through You Give Goods. Those interested in donating funds directly are asked to please visit here.

All goods donated online now through Friday, May 24th will benefit a network of 50 food cupboards throughout the Greater Philadelphia region supported by NDS including five food cupboards operated by Catholic Social Services, five soup kitchens, and numerous community outreach programs.

In addition to its online efforts, NDS’ Community Food Program is also partnering with parishes throughout the five-county region as part of this initiative.

For more information, please contact Denise Hopkins, administrator of the NDS Community Food Program, at 215-895-3470 ext. 77823 or [email protected].

Editor’s Note: For over 50 years, NDS’ mission has been to serve children and those in need with healthy food and food-related resources. NDS accomplishes its mission in two distinct ways: by administering the federally-funded child nutrition programs and through the privately supported Community Food Program. For more information about NDS, please visit http://nutritionaldevelopmentservices.org/. NDS is an equal opportunity service provider.
