Faithful Throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Encouraged to Observe National Marriage Week and World Marriage Day
Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. has encouraged the clergy and faithful throughout the five-county Archdiocese of Philadelphia to join in the observance of National Marriage Week (February 7-14) and World Marriage Day (February 12). Sponsored by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), these initiatives celebrate the gift and blessing of marriage while affirming and supporting engaged and married couples.
National Marriage Week, now in its eighth year, promotes marriage as a benefit to husbands and wives and to the nation, as well as the best environment in which to raise children.
Archbishop Chaput, Chairman of the USCCB’s Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth, recently wrote to his brother bishops that “promoting and strengthening marriage remains a pastoral priority of our Conference. Marriage, both as a natural institution and as a Christian sacrament, is an irreplaceable food for society and all people.”
A daily virtual marriage retreat for National Marriage Week is available on Facebook at www.facebook.com/foryourmarriage.
