1927 – 2015
Retired Permanent Deacon James H. Burns, son of the late James Joseph Burns and Mary McGill, died on July 7, 2015, after a lengthy illness.
Deacon Burns received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Temple University in 1952. In 1990, he retired from Rollins, Inc., an insurance holding company, located in Wilmington, Delaware, where he served as a risk manager.
Deacon Burns was ordained at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on June 5, 1994, by Most Reverend Edward P. Cullen. He was assigned to Saint Eleanor Parish, Collegeville, where he remained until his retirement in June, 2003.
The reception of the body and viewing will take place on Friday, July 10, 2015, at 9:00 AM, Saint Eleanor Church, 647 Locust Street, Collegeville, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Reverend Monsignor Michael T. McCulken will be the principal celebrant and homilist. The Deacon assisting at the Liturgy of the Word will be Deacon Edward Hinson. The Deacon assisting at the altar will be Deacon John Hasson.
Deacon Burns is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Burns (nee Smith); six children: James, Kevin, Sharon, Shawn, Michael, and Mary-Megan; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Interment will be at Limerick Garden of Memories, 44 Swamp Pike, Limerick.
