Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Office of Catholic Education Kick Off the 2016-2017 School Year with Official Back-to-School Event and Pep Rally

Students from Archdiocesan elementary schools, high schools and schools of special education will line the steps of the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul as Bishop Michael J. Fitzgerald, who oversees the Office of Catholic Education and Mr. Christopher Mominey, Chief Operating Officer and Secretary for Catholic Education, officially welcomes students throughout the 120 elementary schools, 17 high schools and 4 schools of education back to school. 

The event will feature musical selections from the Saint Francis Xavier School Student Choir, as well as students from Saint Katherine Day School and Our Lady of Confidence Day School, two Archdiocesan schools of special education.

The pep rally will also include members of the Saint Hubert Catholic High School for Girls National Championship Cheerleading Team and the Bishop Shanahan High School Jazz Pep Band. In addition, mascots from city of Philadelphia high schools will compete in a friendly mascot race!

The event will be streamed live from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Schools website at www.aopcatholicschools.org. For the first time during an Archdiocesan event a Drone will be used to capture additional footage overhead.
