Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez to Celebrate Mass for Educators of Archdiocesan Parish and Regional Elementary Schools in Delaware County

Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, D.D., Archbishop of Philadelphia, will celebrate Mass for administrators and teachers of Archdiocesan parish and regional elementary schools in Delaware County. This Mass is being celebrated as a part of a Professional Development day for Catholic educators in Delaware County.

Following Mass, Andrew McLaughlin, Ed.D., Secretary for Elementary Education for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, will recognize teachers who have dedicated their lives to the mission of Catholic education for 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 years.

The theme for the professional development program is “Cultivate a THRIVE versus SURVIVE Mentality.” There will be two keynote presentations by Sister Patricia McCormack, I.H.M., Ed.D., Program Director – I.H.M. Office of Formative Support for Parents and Teachers, and Doctor Patty Schwab on classroom management in Catholic identity. Following the presentations, teachers will work in grade level groups to collaborate and share ideas.

Background Information on Sr. Patricia McCormack, I.H.M., Ed.D. and Dr. Patty Schwab

Sr. Patricia McCormack, I.H.M., Ed.D. is an international formation-education consultant, public speaker, and author of the “Parking Lot Parent” trilogy (Twenty-third Publications), Resilience & Self-Reliance – Key Pieces in the Self-Esteem Puzzle (NCEA), Embrace the Mission – Be the “I” in Evangelize (NCEA), Parental Love Is (The Pastoral Center) and dozens of articles. Additionally, her ministry includes parent presentations as well as workshops, retreats, and days of in-service to the educational community. Her style of public speaking blends Catholic spirituality, psychology, and wisdom gathered from parents, teachers, and students. Currently she serves as principal at Sacred Heart School in Havertown (Delaware County).

Dr. Patty Schwab has been an educator for 35 years, filling a variety of roles (K-12 teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Professional Consultant). She believes that each child’s educational journey should provide them with tools to ensure success in school and beyond. Her experience has taught her that this is best accomplished by learning about and possessing study skills. Dr. Schwab is now working with students and educators on how to build study skills and incorporate them into the learning environment. By doing this, Dr. Schwab aims to help students successfully develop into independent, productive, and socially minded individuals.
