Background information on Saint Agnes School

In 1872, under the Episcopal leadership of Most Reverend James F. Wood, the 5th Bishop of Philadelphia and 1st Archbishop of Philadelphia, Reverend John J. Wall, and parishioners of Saint Agnes Church, Saint Agnes Parochial School was established. Archbishop Wood asked the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, whose motherhouse was located in West Chester to staff the school. The Sisters remain a graced presence in the parish community.

Saint Agnes School provides a faith-based, nurturing, and affirming learning environment for over 300 students in grades pre-k (ages 3 and 4) through eighth grade. The school was recognized in 2010 and 2015 by the United States Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. In addition, Saint Agnes was named a 2019 School of Distinction by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s Office of Catholic Education.

Saint Agnes School is an exceptional place of learning; an outstanding staff of faith-filled, dedicated professionals and parents collaborate in the learning process that integrates the religious formation program with sound intellectual preparation in the academic areas of the curriculum. The vision of the principal and school staff is that of a peace-filled school community in which both students and staff treat one another with care and respect.

The school’s mission is to develop every student spiritually, intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially in a faith-based joyful environment that inspires integrity, citizenship, leadership, and service to others as disciples of Jesus Christ, in the church and in the world.
