The Archdiocese Of Philadelphia Announces The Appointment Of Mr. Marc A. Fisher As Chief Financial Officer

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced today that Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. has appointed Mr. Marc A. Fisher as its next Chief Financial Officer effective July 1, 2019.

This appointment follows a February 2019 public announcement from the Archdiocese that its previous Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Tim O’Shaughnessy, would be departing to consider and pursue other career opportunities. The Archdiocese retained the firm of Heidrick & Struggles to perform a national search to identify his successor. That process surfaced a number of highly qualified candidates who were interviewed by a search committee consisting of Archdiocesan administrators and members of the Archdiocesan Finance Council. The search committee unanimously recommended to Archbishop Chaput that he appoint Mr. Fisher as Chief Financial Officer.

Mr. Fisher, 46, has served the Archdiocese of Philadelphia faithfully for the past eight years. Upon his arrival in 2011, he was named the Director of the Office for Audit Services. Since June 2012, he has been the Director of the Office for Parish Services and Support. In those roles he led a team that provided oversight and services to 216 parishes and over 100 affiliated parish schools throughout the five-county region. Those services included assistance with accounting and budgeting and the establishment of strategies for long-term sustainability. Mr. Fisher also oversaw the design and implementation of standardized financial control policies and procedures for universal adaptation by parishes throughout the Archdiocese with a focus on payroll, accounting software, and cloud based financial reporting. He has also served on various committees and councils including the Archdiocesan Finance Council, the Accounting and Audit Committee, the Pension and 403(b) Plan Work Group, the Benefits Committee, and the Strategic Planning Committee.

Prior to his time with the Archdiocese, Mr. Fisher spent several years in key leadership positions in public accounting firms and at a private firm in the Philadelphia region. In those roles he managed a variety of financial matters related to accounting and auditing, budgeting, and internal controls.

Mr. Fisher holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from De Sales University. Earlier in his career he was a Certified Public Accountant in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In addition, he currently serves as President of the Saint Joseph’s Preparatory School Father’s Club and Treasurer of the Saint Joseph Preparatory School Wrestling Team.

He and his wife, Michelle, have four children and are parishioners of Saint Peter Parish in Merchantville, New Jersey.
