Seven Local Catholic Schools Participate in Junior Flower Shows

StPetertheApostle_1During January, February, and early March, six Parochial elementary schools and one Archdiocesan high school held a “Junior Flower Show” at their school and welcomed judges from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) as part of its free program for area students.

Participating schools include:  Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls, Saint Agnes Catholic School in West Chester (Chester County), Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic School in Levittown (Bucks County), Our Lady of Hope Regional Catholic School, Saint Joseph the Protector Regional Catholic School in Glenside (Montgomery County), Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School, and Saint Peter the Apostle School.

According to PHS, this year’s “Junior Flower Show” theme for all schools who took part was “Double Dutch,” which related to this year’s Philadelphia Flower Show theme, “Holland.”  During the “Junior Flower Show” students from the seven participating schools depicted the theme through the use of real flowers and plants, as well as three-dimensional artwork, crafts, watercolor paintings, and illustrations.  Participating students took part in artistic classes, horticulture classes, and classroom projects provided to their schools by PHS.

According to the PHS website, “The Junior Flower Show is a free program for students from pre-school through high school that fosters an awareness of horticulture and the natural environment among youth and encourages active participation in growing, gardening, and sustainable practices.  The program is made possible, in part, through the support of The Christopher Ludwick Foundation, the Connelly Foundation, the Dolfinger-McMahon Foundation, and the National Park Service.”  For more information on the Philadelphia Flower Show, which is open from March 11th – March 19th visit:  https://theflowershow.com/.
