1927 – 2014

Reverend James J. Martin, Retired and Resident, Saint Francis Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare, died at Saint Francis Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare, on Friday, February 20, 2015.

Father Martin was born on October 18, 1927, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Charles Martin and the late Delia Mulkeen. Father Martin attended Saint Columba Parochial School, Philadelphia, and Roman Catholic High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Martin was ordained on May 18, 1963, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend John J. Krol. Father Martin served as Assistant Pastor Queen of Peace Parish, Ardsley; Our Lady of Ransom Parish, Philadelphia; Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Philadelphia; Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Philadelphia; and Parochial Vicar, Holy Family Parish, Philadelphia. He retired from active ministry in 2004.

A viewing will be held at Annunciation B.V.M. Church, Havertown, on Thursday, February 26, 2015, beginning at 9:30 AM. The Most Reverend Robert P. Maginnis will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father Martin at Annunciation B.V.M. Church, Havertown on Thursday, February 26, 2015, at 11:00 AM. This Funeral Mass also will include Father Martin’s sister, Theresa F. Martin, who died on Thursday, February 19, 2015. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend John J. Bradley, Reverend Monsignor Charles E. McGroarty, and Reverend Francis X. McKee. Father McKee will be the homilist.

Father Martin is survived by his nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon.
