THE PERMANENT DIACONATE
Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. will ordain seven men to the Permanent Diaconate for service in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The Rite of Ordination will take place during Mass following the Gospel.

Permanent deacons are members of the clergy of the Catholic Church. They may be single or married. As ministers of God's Word, permanent deacons preach and teach. They baptize, may witness marriages, carry out the funeral rites at the Vigil and the grave, and administer Holy Communion to the sick and dying.
Those being ordained are listed below.
Joseph W. Bernauer, Jr. is a member of Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Northeast Philadelphia, where he resides with his wife Marianne. They have two children, Rachel and Joseph. Mr. Bernauer holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from West Chester University. He is an executive sales representative for Dentsply Tulsa Dental.
E. Michael Cuff is a member of Saint Anthony of Padua Parish in Ambler (Montgomery County) where he resides with his wife Susan and son, Kevin. Mr. Cuff served four years in the United States Air Force and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in General Studies/Communication from Louisiana Tech University. He is a certified career transition coach and a certified life options retirement coach. Mr. Cuff is employed by CCI Consulting in Blue Bell, where he holds the position of Director of Client Services.
William J. Moser is a member of Saint William Parish in Northeast Philadelphia where he resides with his wife Donna. They have a son, Sean. Mr. Moser holds a Master of Arts Degree in Theology from Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood. He is a teacher at Father Judge High School in Philadelphia.
John J. Nucero is a member of Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Parish in North Wales (Montgomery County) where he resides with his wife Christina. They have four children, John, Christopher, Paul and Jacqueline. Mr. Nucero holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Saint Joseph's University. He is the Chief Financial Officer for Fiber-Line, LLC in Hatfield, Pennsylvania.
Francis X. Phillips is a member of Saint Thomas the Apostle Parish in Glen Mills (Delaware County) where he resides with his wife Janice. They have three children, Shawn, David and Joshua. Mr. Phillips holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Saint Joseph's University. He is the Director of Finance at Saint Basil Academy in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.
Thomas E. Shurer is a member of Saint Agnes Parish in West Chester (Chester County) where he resides with his wife Chris. They have four children, Katie, Jake, Rob and Marie. Mr. Shurer holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication Disorders, a Master of Arts Degree in Speech Pathology and a Master of Science Degree in Information Science. He is the Vice President of Information Resources at Devereux, a national behavioral healthcare provider headquartered in Villanova, Pennsylvania.
James Toth is a member of Saint Alphonsus Parish in Maple Glen (Montgomery County) where he resides with his wife Michelle. They have three sons, Travis, Jarrett and Michael. Mr. Toth graduated from Bethlehem Catholic High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He is a 23-year veteran of the United States Postal Service.

An audio and video mult-box will be provided in the parking lot of the Cathedral. Please enter the lot on 17th Street, between Race and Vine Streets. Crews will need a bnc connector and a recording deck or a live truck. Television cameras will not be permitted in the Cathedral. Reporters and still photographers will be permitted in the Cathedral but are asked to remain clear of the center aisle.
