CARDINAL BEVILACQUA TO CELEBRATE PUERTO RICAN FESTIVAL MASS

Anthony Cardinal Bevilacqua, Archbishop of Philadelphia, will preside at the annual Puerto Rican Festival Mass. The purpose of the Mass is to celebrate the faith, accomplishments and culture of the Puerto Rican people.

Reverend José Andrés Rodríguez, the Director of Hispanic Ministry in the Diocese of Worcester, Massachusetts will be the homilist. There is also a focus this year on Blessed Carlos Manuel Rodríguez (1918-1963) who was beatified by Pope John Paul II in April 2001. Blessed Carlos evangelized college students in Puerto Rico and promoted vocations.

There are 26 parishes in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia that have Hispanic Ministry. The Archdiocese also has a Mission at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in the Diocese of Arecibo in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico. Two priests of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia are assigned to the Mission at Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
