PERMANENT DEACON CHARLES A. PAVONARIUS

1937 – 2017

Retired Deacon Charles A. Pavonarius died Sunday, October 22, 2017 after a short illness. He was 80 years old.

Deacon Pavonarius was ordained on June 7, 1992, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul by Most Reverend Louis A. DeSimone. He was assigned to Saint Jerome Parish, Philadelphia, where he remained until his retirement from active ministry on January 15, 2014.

Deacon Pavonarius was born on June 22, 1937 in Philadelphia. He graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in 1956. He served on active duty with the United States Army from 1960 until 1962. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army Reserve in 1966.

Deacon Pavonarius retired from the Sun Oil Company on January 1, 2000.

He was married for 50 years to the late Annette Marie (nee Miller), who died on December 6, 2015. Deacon Pavonarius is survived by two children, Charles Edward, and Donna Marie, by three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a brother and sister.

The reception of the body, Evening Prayer, and viewing will take place on Monday, October 30, 2017, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Saint Jerome Church, 8100 Colfax Street, Philadelphia. A second viewing will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 beginning at 9:00 AM followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. The principal celebrant will be Most Reverend Edward M. Deliman. The homilist will be Reverend Anthony T. Rossi. The Deacon Assisting at the Liturgy of the Word will be Deacon Peter E. Zurbach. The Deacon Assisting at the Altar will be Deacon Raymond Gwynn.
