Nutritional Development Services Participates In 6th Annual Every Kid Healthy Week—A Celebration Of School Health And Wellness Achievements

Each day, Nutritional Development Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (NDS) work to ensure that more 30,000 students have access to breakfast and lunch during the school day.

NDS will participate in the 6th Annual Every Kid Healthy Week (April 23-27). The goal of this initiative is to encourage students to take advantage of the healthy choices available with the School Meals Program while demonstrating the link between nutrition, physical activity, and academic success.

Every Kid Healthy Week is observed during the last full week of April each year. This special week was created to celebrate school health and wellness achievements. In addition, it shines a spotlight on the great efforts schools are making to improve the health and wellness of their students.

Students from partnered schools located throughout the five-county Archdiocese will be encouraged to participate in NDS’ Five Day Challenge. The Challenge will consist of fitness activities that can be completed anytime throughout the school day.

Brooke Mullen, Assistant Director of Community Relations for NDS said, “These activities will encourage kids to be up and moving, get their blood flowing and body energized. In addition to eating well, exercise, and physical activity are critical for keeping children healthy and strong. Even a simple two to five minute stretch or activity may improve academic performance in school-aged children.  NDS supports holistic wellness environments in schools, where children can be their healthiest and at their best to learn and grow.  Every Kid Healthy Week is another great way schools can promote healthy living!”

NDS has partnered with 100 schools for the 2017-2018 academic year to administer the federally funded National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.
