PERMANENT DEACON ARTHUR M. MCGUIRE

 1935-2018

Retired Permanent Deacon Arthur M. McGuire, died on March 7, 2018, as a result of complications from lymphoma. He was 82 years old.

Deacon McGuire was born on November 30, 1935 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. His family relocated to Philadelphia in 1942. Deacon McGuire was ordained a permanent deacon on June 1, 1997, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend Joseph F. Martino. He was assigned to Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Springfield, and remained there until his retirement in the fall of 2017.

Deacon McGuire was self-employed with McGuire Publications, Springfield, Pennsylvania. Prior to that, Deacon McGuire was employed for several years as a journalist. Deacon McGuire is survived by his wife of 51 years, Bridget Patricia (nee O’Malley); five children: Donal; Ann-Marie; Kathleen; Matthew; and Brendan; and 22 grandchildren. The Reception of the Body and viewing will take place on Sunday, March 11, 2018, from 4:00 – 7:00  P.M. at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, Springfield. There will be a second viewing on Monday, March 12, 2018, beginning at 9:00 A.M., followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. The principal celebrant will be Most Reverend Timothy C. Senior. The Deacon of the Mass and homilist will be Deacon W. Timothy Baxter. Reverend Anthony J. Costa will be concelebrating the Mass. Interment will be at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
