Mass Of Installation Of Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez

Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez will be installed as the 14th Bishop (10th Archbishop)
of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on Tuesday, February 18th
at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office for Communications will provide live, streaming video online and to mobile devices at www.archphila.org. Technical details can be found in the final section of this media advisory.

At 1:40 p.m. the procession begins.  The mult-box feed and live streaming video will begin at 1:30 p.m.  The Archdiocese will have cameras both inside and outside of the Cathedral at this time.  The procession of approximately 500 Cardinals, Bishops, Priests, Deacons, and Seminarians begins on 17th Street between Vine and Race Streets.  It will pass through the Cathedral Chapel into the Cathedral Basilica.

Reception of the Archbishop into the Cathedral Church.  Reverend G. Dennis Gill, Rector of the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, will present a crucifix to Archbishop Pérez when he enters into

the Cathedral itself, as well as holy water that will be sprinkled on those near him at that time. This moment signifies the new Archbishop’s reception and welcome to the Cathedral Church of the Archdiocese.  Because space is limited, there will be still pool cameras capturing this moment and it will also be broadcast via the Archdiocesan broadcast feed.

At 2:00 p.m. Mass begins.  Approximately 2,000 individuals are expected to attend.  At the beginning of Mass, Archbishop Chaput will welcome Archbishop Pérez to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The Rite of Installation follows the welcome. An Apostolic Letter announcing the appointment of Archbishop Pérez as Archbishop of Philadelphia will be read by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States. Representatives of the Church of Philadelphia, Ecumenical and Interfaith representatives, and civil servants will be presented to the Archbishop.

Pool coverage for still photos will be provided to Catholic media by CatholicPhilly.com. Please contact Sarah Webb, [email protected]. The Philadelphia Inquirer will provide still photo pool coverage for all secular media through the Associated Press. Please contact Frank Wiese, [email protected]

The Mass of Installation will be streamed live on Tuesday, February 18th beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Audio Feeds and Reporter Seating

Given space limitations inside the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, no television cameras will be permitted inside the Cathedral on the day of the installation.  As it has done with previous special events, including the Mass celebrated by Pope Francis in 2015, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will provide a direct broadcast feed for all media outlets.

Media trucks can access an external mult-box in the parking lot at the rear of the Cathedral. Print and Radio journalists can access an additional mult-box with program closed circuit video feed in the Neumann Room. This private room is located inside the Cathedral behind the main altar. It can be accessed from the parking lot at the rear of the Cathedral. Staff escorts will be provided to guide individuals to this location. The mult-boxes feature both Program and Cleanfeed 1080i video with embedded audio (BNC) and Program audio (XLR).
