REVEREND MONSIGNOR THOMAS J. KELLEY

 1923 – 2016

Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Kelley, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Anne Parish, Philadelphia, died on Wednesday, July 6, 2016.

Monsignor Kelley was born on May 21, 1923, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Thomas Kelley and the late Mary V. (Sherin) Kelley.  Monsignor Kelley attended Samuel Breck Grade School, Philadelphia; Theodore Roosevelt Junior High School, Philadelphia; and Northeast Catholic High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Monsignor Kelley was ordained on May 19, 1951, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend Hugh L. Lamb, and named Honorary Prelate to His Holiness Pope John Paul II on March 24, 2003.  Monsignor Kelley served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Cancicus Parish, Mahanoy City; Saint Ann Parish, Lansford; Saint Catherine of Siena Parish, Allentown; Saint Patrick Parish, Norristown; Visitation B.V.M. Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Columba Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Colman Parish, Ardmore; and Saint Madeline Parish, Ridley Park.  Monsignor Kelley served as Pastor at Holy Saviour Parish, Linwood from 1980 through in 1985.  In December 1985, Monsignor Kelley was appointed Pastor, Saint Anne Parish, Philadelphia, and named Pastor Emeritus there in 1998.

Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Matthew Church, Philadelphia, on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 4:00 PM, followed by a viewing and a parish Mass will be celebrated at 7:00 PM.

Most Reverend Michael J. Fitzgerald will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Monsignor Kelley at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Anne Church, Philadelphia, on Tuesday, July 12, 2016.  A viewing will be held beginning at 9:00 AM.  Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor Francis Dreger, Reverend Monsignor Charles McGroarty, Reverend Charles Gormley, Reverend Monsignor Joseph McLoone, Reverend Roland Slobogin, Reverend Steven Marinucci, Reverend Eugene Tully, Reverend Edward Brady and Reverend James Novakowski (Diocese of Grand Island).  Father Novakowski will be the homilist.

Monsignor Kelley is survived by his nephew, Donald Kelley.  Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken.
