Judge Nelson Diaz to Visit Students at Catholic Social Services Out of School Time Program

As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Honorable Nelson Diaz, former Judge for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, will visit Catholic Social Services’ Casa del Carmen to speak about his experience with law school and pursuing a career in law with students in the Out of School Time Program.

Judge Diaz was the youngest judge elected to the Court and the first Latino judge in Pennsylvania history. In addition to his legal practice, he served as the city solicitor of Philadelphia and was appointed by President Clinton to be the general counsel for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The eleven Out of School Time Programs of Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia provide support with homework assistance, youth development and family support. 30 students from different neighborhood schools attend Casa del Carmen’s after-school program.
