REVEREND CHARLES E. GORMLEY

1924 – 2018

Reverend Charles E. Gormley, Pastor Emeritus, Mother of Divine Providence Parish, King of Prussia, died on Sunday, January 28, 2018.

Father Gormley was born on July 13, 1924, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Charles E. and the late Hannah (McNamee) Gormley.  Father Gormley attended Saint Gregory Parochial School, Philadelphia; Saint Rose of Lima Parochial School, Norristown, and Saint Thomas More High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Gormley was ordained on May 19, 1951, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Most Reverend Hugh L. Lamb.  Father Gormley served as Parochial Vicar, Saint Patrick Parish, Pottsville; Saint Patrick Parish, Norristown; Saint Veronica Parish, Philadelphia; Saint William Parish, Philadelphia; Saint Michael the Archangel Parish, Levittown; and Saint Helena Parish, Philadelphia.  He then served as Parochial Administrator, Mother of Divine Providence Parish, King of Prussia.  In 1982, he was appointed Pastor, Mother of Divine Providence Parish, King of Prussia, and named Pastor Emeritus there in 1996.  He then served as Senior Priest, Saint Matthias Parish, Bala Cynwyd.

Reception of the Body will be held at Mother of Divine Providence Church, on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 9:00 AM, followed by a viewing.

Most Reverend Edward M. Deliman will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Father Gormley at Mother of Divine Providence Church, King of Prussia, on Friday, February 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM.  Among those concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor Francis X. Dreger, Reverend Monsignor Gerard C. Mesure, Reverend Monsignor Arthur E. Rodgers, Reverend Monsignor Michael T. McCulken, Reverend Martin T. Cioppi and Reverend Michael C. DiIorio will be the homilist.

Father Gormley is survived by his brothers: John W. Gormley and William J. Gormley, and nephews and nieces.  Interment will be at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
