Tielemans, Deacon Mathieu M.

1927 – 2015

Deacon Mathieu M. Tielemans, retired Permanent Deacon, died on Monday, January 26, 2015.

Deacon Tielemans was born on May 23, 1927, in Antwerp, Belgium. He married Paula Berghmans in 1952. Deacon Tielemans arrived in the United States in 1959, and after settling in Philadelphia, his wife arrived the following year. They were married for 62 years. They have three children: Albert (Amy); Christina Willett (George); and Eric (Dana). They also have 7 grandchildren. Deacon Tielemans was a retired dental technician, and was the owner and operator of CEKA Dental Attachments.

Deacon Tielemans was ordained a Permanent Deacon at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, on May 24, 1987 by the Most Reverend Martin N. Lohmuller. He was assigned to Saint Stanislaus Parish, Lansdale, this was his only assignment. He retired from active ministry on March 8, 2010.

Reception of the body will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Saint Stanislaus Church, 51 Lansdale Avenue, Lansdale, at 6:30 PM, followed by a viewing from 7:00 PM to 9:00PM. A second viewing will take place on Wednesday, February 4, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Saint Stanislaus Church. Most Reverend Timothy C. Senior will celebrate his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 4, 2015. The homilist and concelebrant will be Reverend Joseph B. Smits C.I.C.M. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Robert A. Roncase and Reverend Philip M. Forlano. The Deacon of the Word will be Deacon Raymond C. Wellbank. Deacon of the Eucharist will be Deacon Stephen C. Vondercrone. The Master of ceremonies will be Deacon Charles G. Lewis.

Deacon Tielemans is survived by his wife Paula, children: Albert, Christina, and Eric, as well as grandchildren: Rebecca, Aaron, Morgan, Alexander, Eric Jr., Lacey, and Nathan. He was preceded in death by his brother Francois Tielemans and sister Julienne Leonardo.
