Nearly 24 representatives from 12 dioceses across the United States will be in attendance to learn about model parish-based elder care programs.
Catholic Housing and Community Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CHCS) along with Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) will host a two-day educational training event to highlight CHCS’ innovative Eldercare Program.
This program, which operates within the context of a parish, seeks to address the unique needs of aging parishioners and opens the door for local services that may not otherwise be sought out.

Dedicated staff from CHCS will educate participants on the establishment of community-based services for seniors within their parish and how to discover local partnerships that are vital to the success of the program. Participants will also discuss the unique challenges and benefits of serving seniors in this type of setting and hear from those whose parish community’s benefit from this program.
Ms. Heather Huot, Assistant Director of Parish and Housing Services for CHCS said, “We are honored to be able to share this innovative approach to services for older adults within the parish setting with other CCUSA member agencies. This program recognizes that older adults have been committed members of their parishes for decades and that by becoming a part of that trusted parish community, we are able to open doors to services that might not otherwise be opened.”
Last year CHCS’ Eldercare Program served 13 parishes and nearly 1,200 seniors throughout the five-county metropolitan area comprising the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Care Managers visited more than 1,500 homes and provided comprehensive care management, in-home safety assessments, referral services, transportation services, legal assistance, and more.
