Catholic Charities Appeal Selects Saint Edmond’s Home For Children As #GivingTuesday Beneficiary

The Catholic Charities Appeal of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CCA) will once again participate in #GivingTuesday, an international day of charity that encourages philanthropy and celebrates generosity. This year, #GivingTuesday will be held November 28, 2017. CCA has selected Saint Edmond’s Home for Children, a ministry of Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, as its official beneficiary.

Located in Rosemont (Montgomery County), Saint Edmond’s Home for children was founded by Archbishop Edmond Prendergast in 1916 to meet the needs of children afflicted by polio. First located at 44th Street and Haverford Avenue in Philadelphia, the home was administered by the Sisters of Bon Secours and was the first Catholic home of its kind in America. One hundred years later, Saint Edmond’s Home for Children is an Intermediate Care Facility for children with severe and profound intellectual and physical disabilities. The facility’s primary role is to provide an exceptional range of services and compassionate, quality care for medically fragile children ages 6 weeks to 21 years.

Launched six years ago, #GivingTuesday has become a philanthropic phenomenon fueled by social media. This international day of giving is held annually on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. It inspires people to take collective action to improve their communities and give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
