ARCHDIOCESE OF PHILADELPHIA TO BE CONSECRATED TO OUR LADY OF FATIMA ON 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF APPARITIONS

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia will be consecrated to Our Lady of Fatima on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Portugal on Sunday, October 15, 2017.

Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. will be the principal celebrant and homilist at the Mass as we entrust the Archdiocese to the care of the Blessed Mother.

 Sunday, October 15, 2017
11:00 a.m. (Mass)
Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul
18th and Benjamin Franklin Parkway
Philadelphia, PA 19103

Following Archbishop Chaput’s homily, permanent deacons from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will also gather to renew the promises they made at ordination to the diaconate. This component is in celebration the 50th Anniversary of the Restoration of the Permanent Diaconate under Pope Paul VI.

Faithful are encouraged to prepare for this consecration by participating in a 33 day preparation process beginning on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. Resources to aid in the preparation include St. Louis de Montfort’s Preparation for Total Consecration or Father Michael Gaitley’s 33 Days to Morning Glory preparation process.

Beginning in May 1917 the Blessed Mother appeared to three young children, Lucia, 9, and her cousins Francisco, 8, and his sister Jacinta, 6 in the small village of Fatima, Portugal during six separate apparitions.

Editor’s Note:  From no permanent deacon’s in 1968 to over 18,000 deacons in the United States currently, permanent deacons foster spiritual renewal among their families, in their workplaces and in their parish communities. They are ordained to proclaim the Word, administer certain Sacraments, serve the poor and the faithful, and serve their bishop and priests.
