Archbishop Charles Chaput to Lead a Delegation of Over 3,000 from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to the 2017 March for Life in Washington D.C.

The Annual March for Life is a national event promoting the respect and protection of all human life from conception to natural death.

Archbishop Charles J. Chaput O.F.M. Cap. will lead over 3,000 faithful from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to the Annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. on Friday, January 27, 2017.

This year marks the 44th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions legalizing abortion nationwide.

The March for Life activities will begin with an opening Vigil Mass at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The principal celebrant and homilist will be Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, and Chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Pro-Life Activities.

A National Prayer Vigil for Life will immediately follow the Mass. It will include opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, a Rosary for Life, and Holy Hours for life. Seminaries from around the country will lead individual Holy Hours throughout the night. Seminarians from Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will lead a Holy Hour from 1:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.

On Friday morning, Archbishop Chaput will be the principal celebrant and homilist at a special Mass for approximately 3,000 faithful from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia who are attending the March for Life. That statistic includes approximately 500 students from Archdiocesan high schools as well as parish and regional elementary schools.

The March for Life 2017 Rally will take place at 12:00 p.m. on the grounds of the Washington Monument. Following the Rally, participants will gather on Constitution Avenue between 15th and 17th Streets to begin the march at approximately 1:00 p.m.

Participants from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will meet at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 15th Street. They will process behind the Archdiocese of Philadelphia banner, carried by seminarians from Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. Auxiliary Bishop John J. McIntyre will lead the Philadelphian contingent during the march.

  • A bus from Pope John Paul II High School, Royersford (Montgomery County), with approximately 100 students will depart for Washington, D.C. on Friday, January 27th at 6:00 a.m. from the school’s main entrance – 181 Rittenhouse Road, Royersford, PA 19468.
  • A bus from Cardinal O’Hara High School, Springfield (Delaware County), in Springfield will depart at 6:30 a.m. from the school – 1701 South Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064.
  • A bus from Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls with 57 students will depart from the school at 9:30 a.m. – 1000 West Lycoming Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140.
  • A bus from the Office for Cultural Ministries (Office for Black Catholics, Hispanic Catholics, and Pastoral Care of Migrants and Refugees) will depart at 8:00 a.m. from the Archdiocese Pastoral Center – 222 North 17th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
