Archbishop Chaput to Ordain Twenty-One Men to the Permanent Diaconate

Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. will ordain twenty-one men to the Permanent Diaconate for service in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. They have completed six years of formation at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. The Rite of Ordination will take place during Mass following the Gospel.

Permanent Deacons are members of the clergy of the Catholic Church. They may be single or married. As ministers at the altar, permanent deacons assist the priest and bishop at the Liturgy. They proclaim God’s Word, preach and teach, baptize, may witness marriages, carry out the funeral rites at the vigil and the grave, administer Holy Communion to the sick and dying and perform other works of charity.

Those being ordained are listed below.

Michael J. Bell is a member of Our Lady of Calvary Parish, Philadelphia, where he resides with his wife Amy. They have three children. Dr. Bell received his Bachelor of Arts as well as his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine from Temple University. He is a teacher at Roman Catholic High School for Boys.

Manuel A. Beltran is a member of Saint Martin of Tours Parish, Philadelphia, where he resides with his wife Becky. They have three children. He graduated from DRA Maria Cadilla High School in 1980. Mr. Beltran is employed with U-Haul Falls Manufacturing Company.

Andres A. Carrillo is a member of Holy Innocents Parish, Philadelphia, where he resides with his wife, Danesa. They have three children. Mr. Carrillo attended Manuel A. Perez Elementary School and Juan Ramon Jimenez Middle School in Puerto Rico.

Cristobal Chavac is a member of Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish, Philadelphia, where he resides with his wife Maria. They have five children. Mr. Chavac attended Escuela Nacional Justo Rufino Barrios and Instituto Basico in Guatemala. He is employed by Joe’s Pizzeria in Philadelphia.

B. Stephen Currie is a member of Corpus Christi Parish, Lansdale, where he resides with his wife Kathleen. They have two children. Mr. Currie graduated from the University of Maryland and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance. He is an Executive Consultant with IBM.

Robert H. Hall is a member of Saint Katherine of Siena Parish, Philadelphia, where he resides with his wife, Carole. They have two children. Dr. Hall graduated from Temple University College of Music with a Bachelor’s in Music. He holds a Doctorate Degree in Medicine from Hahnemann University School of Medicine and graduated from Thomas Jefferson University with Residency in Psychiatry in 1997. He is a consultant to several agencies including Saint Francis, Saint Joseph and Saint Vincent Homes for Children.

Francisco Henriquez is a member of Saint Agnes Parish, West Chester, where he resides with his wife Eva. They have three children. Mr. Henriquez holds a Master of Science Degree from the University of Puerto Rico and a Master of Science Degree from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. He is a Chemist with GlaxoSmithKline.

Edward T. Hinson is a member of Saint Eleanor Parish, Collegeville, where he resides. Mr. Hinson received an AAS/ADN in Registered Nursing from Montgomery County Community College. He received a Bachelor in Science in Nursing, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice/Psychology and a Masters in Theology (Biblical) Degree from Harris University in Brandon, Florida. He is a retired United States Army Veteran (101st Airborne Division Combat Medic and 28th Infantry Division) and an East Vincent Township, Chester County, retired Police Officer.

David J. Kolesky is a member of Saint Mary Parish, Schwenksville, where he resides with his wife Jan. They have two children. Mr. Kolesky graduated from Kings College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. He is a Nursing Home Administrator and is employed by Langhorne Gardens Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Mark J. Kuhn is a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Southampton, where he resides with his wife Suzanne. They have four children. Mr. Kuhn attended Holy Family University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French. He is a Business Development Manager and is employed by Kingsbury, Inc.

William G. Kussmaul, III is a member of Nativity B.V.M. Parish, Media, where he resides with his wife Linda Marie. They have four children. Dr. Kussmaul graduated from Yale College in New Haven, CT, with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He graduated M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He is a physician specializing in cardiology at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia and is Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab.

Paul A. Logan is a member of Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Parish, North Wales, where he resides with his wife Susan. They have three children. Mr. Logan holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Illinois and Juris Doctorate from the University of Toledo, College of Law. He is an attorney with Powell Trachtman Logan Carrle & Lombardo P.C. and Drexel University professor in the College of Engineering.

Gregory J. Maskarinec is a member of Mother of Divine Providence Parish, King of Prussia, where he resides with his wife Maureen. They have two sons. Mr. Maskarinec is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He holds a Master’s and Doctorate Degree in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University. He also earned a Master of Arts Degree in Religious Studies from Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. Mr. Maskarinec is an Engineer at Vencore, Inc.

Joseph P. McGonigal is a member of Saint Dorothy Parish, Drexel Hill, where he resides with his wife Kathie. They have two children. Mr. McGonigal earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Policy Analysis at De Sales University. He is a Business Analyst at State Farm Insurance.

Gerard J. McPhillips is a member of Saint Bartholomew Parish, Philadelphia, where he resides with his wife, Patricia. They have five children. Mr. McPhillips holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Temple University. He is a Police Sergeant with the City of Philadelphia Police Department.

Olindo Mennilli is a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Parish, Philadelphia. He graduated Temple University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He holds a Juris Doctor’s Degree from Villanova University Law School. Mr. Mennilli is the Business Administrator at Saint Rita’s Shrine and Parish.

John J. Mischler is a member of Saint Alphonsus Parish, Maple Glen, where he resides with his wife Sherry. They have three children. Mr. Mischler is a graduate of the University of Delaware where he holds a Bachelor of Science in Administrative Management. He is the owner and operator of MedAlliance, Inc.

James O’Neill is a member of Saint Christopher Parish, Philadelphia, where he resides with his wife Mary. They have two children. Mr. O’Neill attended Saint Joseph’s University and is Director of Sales at Mitsubishi Papers Europe.

Victor M. Pomales is a member of Saint Helena Parish, Philadelphia, where he resides with his wife Aurora. They have four children. Mr. Pomales is a graduate of LaSalle University and Temple University. He holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work. He is a Social Worker/Counselor/Medical Interpreter for a psychiatric state hospital.

Samuel Ortiz is a member of Saint Laurence Parish, Upper Darby, where he resides with his wife Hilda. They have four children. Mr. Ortiz is a graduate of Escuela Rural Mixta in Guatavita, Columbia and received his GED from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Education. He is employed by StoneMor Partners.

John P. Teson is a member of Our Lady of Calvary Parish, Philadelphia, where he resides with his wife Juliane. They have two children. Mr. Teson is a graduate of Johnson School of Technology with an Associate Degree in Specialized Technology Tool and Dye Making and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Holy Family University. He is an estimator with Sandmeyer Steel Company.
