Archbishop Chaput Calls for Relief Efforts to Support Victims of Hurricane Irma in the Diocese of Saint Thomas in the Virgin Islands

In the wake of Hurricane Irma’s devastation of the Caribbean, Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. has asked that all parishes in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia consider taking up a voluntary collection over any one of the next three weekends to support continued relief efforts.

All proceeds from this special collection will be dedicated to assisting the Diocese of Saint Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands and its faithful. This diocese is shepherded by Most Reverend Herbert A. Bevard, who was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in 1972 and served here until his appointment as a bishop in 2008. Bishop Bevard and those he shepherds face the daunting task of rebuilding in the months ahead and temporal needs are great.
